front cover analysis

i researched front covers from other magazines to see how they are layed, the use of images, choice of colours etc.
i chose to analyse nme;

The magazine cover has a large image which is positioned in front of everything else on the cover. This gives the image a sense of importance and shows that it will be an important part of the magazine. It is important to have a main image accompanied by an important story so there is a focus for the magazine.
There is a colour scheme; black, red, and white, these are the colours used for the name. This helps it get recognised and so people immediately know the name of it.
There are smaller images up the left hand side; these represent the stories inside, as they are smaller than the main image this indicates they aren’t as important. This allows readers to see what is inside besides the main story.
There are quotes from the stories along with the images, this gives an idea of what was talked about in the interview; a taster to the reader and to make them purchase the magazine to read it.
This magazine also has a tag line; ‘first for music news’, it is important for a magazine to have a tag line to make it unique and to make the magazine recognised by something other than its name.
