contents analysis

i analysed other music magazine contents pages to see the following things:

  • layout.

  • colour use.

  • images.

by doing this it could help me when designing my contents page.

i analysed NME magazine's contents page:

Contents page analysis

The colour scheme has been carried through from the front cover to the contents page; the red, black and white are the only colours used. This means that looking at it you can automatically see what magazine it is from, also, this gives it uniqueness. Every magazine has a colour scheme as this is one of the things that get it recognised.
There are 3 images, these are relevant to the stories inside and are there to inform the reader of where those stories are inside the magazine. Accompanying the images are small bits of text, for example the top image has a part of the interview next to it. It is in speech marks which is how the reader can tell it is an extract from the interview. This is to give the reader something to get them interested.
The page numbers are in very large writing; this is so the reader can immediately find the page number and what’s on that page without scanning through a lot of writing. From this I know that I need to have clear bold numbering so readers can find what’s inside easily.
For two of the page information’s they have taken a word out and put a square round it, for example ‘speed’, these are words that they think will interest the readers and make them want to read that page.
